  • Impacts of the Cold War on Kuwait in relations to Russia

  • In 1991, Kuwait was beginning to be recognized as a Russian Federation as the and as the successor state to the former Soviet Union. There was an embassy held in Kuwait city, Kuwait and another held in Moscow, Russia.  Mr. Alexy Soloman was the ambassador from Russia.  Abdulaziz A. Aladwam was the ambassador for Kuwait.
  • Would it be considered a diplomatic relationship if we were embassies of each others countries?
  • Yes I believe so.

  • Also in 1991 the Kuwait Trading Company extended it headquaters in Moscow, Russia with a loan on US $1 billion on a 7 year term. Later in 2006 Russia and Kuwait agreed to to settle with US $1.6 billion debt from the former Soviet Union.  The repayments were repayed in US $1 billion in cash and US $600 million dollars worth of goods.
  • Grandpa, in class we are learning about the Cold War.  Who was the political leader of Kuwait during the Cold War whose decisions still affect us today?
  • Sheikh Jaber Al Ahmad Al Sabah was the political leader of Kuwait for 27 years. He lead the country through the conflict of Iraq and Iran for nearly 8 years. 
  • In 1993, the first Persian Gulf Arab state, Kuwait, signed a military agreement with Russia.  Prior to this there was an agreement made for the naval forces to be joint.  No more than 2 years later in 1994 there was another agreement made with Russia about the loan of fighting vehicles.  
  • This is a replicated model of where the Naval forces slept during the joining of the Russian and Kuwait forces in 1992. 
  • Over the past 100 years the relations between Kuwait and Russia has extended.  Which was called for the intensification of investment between both countries.

  • There was a bilateral trade agreement set up between Kuwait and Russia. It ended uo totaling to US $400,000 and by 2005 that total increased to US $2.2 million.

  • We have about three more days.  This trade relationship is great , but traveling overseas can get quite lengthy.
