  • How was life like at the auction?
  • The West Africans lives were normal before the European slave catchers came. Africa had great history and culture in their buildings. They had many huge kingdoms and organizations, each with their own cultures and languages.

  • There is still slavery everywhere!
  • The West Africans lives were very harsh and terrible during transportation. This is because they were packed in a big slave ship with a bunch of other slaves and some couldn’t even breathe. If a slave got sick they would throw them overboard. This is so the sickness won’t spread to the others.
  • A slaves life at the auction was extremely scary and depressing. This is because they are seperated from their families, and it is the last time they will see them.
  • There are around 30,000 slaves in the world today, which is more than at any time in history.
  • Did you know Part of the White House was build by slaves?
  • The average cost of a slave in America in 1850 was about $400 which is about $12,000 today.
  • India has the largest slave population in the world.
