After a huge success in the results of both Charlies increased intelligence and of the other test subject, a white mouse named Algernon, the experiment is proved to be successful.

Charlie Gordon was an average man, but he only had an IQ of 68, so he asked around, and found a place that could make him smarter.
In order to make Charlie smarter, surgery was done on his brain so he would have the mental capacity to learn rapidly and have three times his previous intelligence.
However, the results were not permanent. After a short amount of time, Algernon dies and Charlies Mental capacity shrinks.
After a few short weeks, Charlie completely forgets everything he learned, and decide to start a new life in New York.
