Utulu, please prepare for your vision quest. You will be leaving soon.
Journey from his Home
Follow me, young one.
Sacred Place
Thank you for your help!
Remember not to eat or drink anything while you are here.
At the sweat lodge, Utulu prepares for his vision quest. He has just turned fourteen and the elder approached him and told him that he must prepare spiritually. Over the last couple days, he spent his time deepening his connection with the earth, and he is ready to experience his visions.
Fasting and Praying
The medicine man led him far away from his camp. They hiked many kilometers through the forest in order to reach the sacred land of his tribe, which was the land where many prominent members of the tribe, including Utulu’s parents, went in search of their vision.
Utulu's Spirit Vision
Everyone will be so excited to hear about this!
When they arrived, Utulu was instructed by the medicine man to not eat any food or water and to spend ample time in prayer. He promptly started praying as the medicine man left and stayed in his prayer for many hours.
The Elder's Interpretation
Your parents had the same vision! The bear is a true symbol of strength, you will grow up to be strong just like your parents are, Utulu.
Utulu spent many days praying next to a cozy campfire, but he was getting more demoralized as more time passed with his prayers going unanswered. He feared that, without any food or water, he may have to abandon the quest entirely. Nevertheless, he was still determined to keep going.
Please, speak to me!
After several days in constant prayer without eating or drinking anything, his vision had appeared to him. After many sessions of intense prayer and multiple failures, he finally saw a spirit of a bear in the distance, standing meekly by a tree. He stood up excitedly and watched intently, eager to remember any detail he could.
Upon returning home, he spoke to the elder who sent him to his quest in order to decipher his vision. The elder had revealed to him that his parents had similar visions to his and that bears are symbols of great strength.
