  • Virginia Plan
  •  We are a smaller population and weaker with no representation! It makes no sense!
  • More population and more representation!!
  • Conneticut Compromise Plan
  • Equal Representation!
  • New Jersey Plan
  • One vote per state instead of it being based on population.
  • Yes AND we only need one house!!
  • The Virgnia Plan proposed the idea of having the United States be governed by way of a bicameral legislature. Population size would then control the number of votes per state in Congress. The plan also proposed a strong central government composed of the legislative, judicial, and executive branches, to create a system of checks and balances.
  • 3/5 Compromise
  • You all now count as three people and represent our state in Congress.
  • Each state would be awarded a certain number of votes equal to the state's representation by Congress and then those votes would decide the candidate?
  • The Conneticut Plan was adopted at the Constitutional Convention. This plan was an agreement on the bicameral federal legislature, and where each state would send an equal number of delegates to the Senate and to the House of Representatives.
  • Electoral College
  • Instead of having only Congress or only qualified citizens choose who runs in office, we could compromise on both.
  • The New Jersey Plan called for each state to have one vote in Congress, instead of the number of votes being based on population. This was to decrease the power in the larger states. The plan proposed a unicameral legislature of only one house, while still having three branches, and called for equal representation.
  • Slave Trade Compromise
  • The 3/5 compromise was reached between the Northern and Southern states in 1787. It was proposed during a debate of whether slaves should be counted when determining the total number of representatives for legislative and tax purposes. This compromise said that every slave would be counted as 3/5 of a person, so five slaves would equal three.
  • The Electoal College was purposed over the debate of whether the election of the President should be based on votes in Congress or from elections held by popular vote of qualified and registered citizens. This Compromise allowed both to be done at elections, and so large groups of reprsentative from each state would unite and choose a Vice President and President.
  • How does that work?
  • The North wanted Congress to have power and regulate slaves, because they were only benefiting the South. The Slave Trade Compromise gave the Federal government some power over commerce, with the laws that prohibeted Congress to regulate the slave trade until 1808, but could impose a tax on imported slaves.
  • The Slave Trade is only allowed to be regulated after 1808. Congress has passed a compromise for the Northern and Southern States. Bye.
