Thermal Expansion Problem
This storyboard does not have a description.
Bridges on highways have expansion joints. They are put there so the bridge will have room to expand when the weather gets hot.
The bridge had a gap of 1.3 cm when the temperature was 22 C
I heard the gap narrows to 0.9 cm when the temperature is like 30 C
0.9-1.3/30-22=.05 and that is m but when you solve for b, b= 2.4 so then the equation is y=-.05x+2.4
When the temperature is 35 C .05*35+2.4= - 1.75+ 2.4 and y = .65 and then the temperature at -10 C is .05x+2.4 =.05(-10)+2.4= -.5+2.4 = 2.9 so y =2.9.
0.5 represents the temperature when the gap closes
