Ponyboy went on a walk and he was telling himself that Johnny wasn't dead. Then a guy in a car asked Pony if he wanted a ride so Pony got in the car. The guy told Pony that he was bleeding all over the seat. When Pony got home he was saying that Johnny and Dally weren't dead. Ponyboy had to go to the hospital because he had a concussion. Soda and Pony fell asleep.
Ponyboy had to stay in bed a whole week. Pony wondered about Bob that day. He thought about the bad man he and Johnny killed. Later that day Randy came over and talked to Pony about the trial. Randy said "No kid, it was your friend, the one who died in the hospital." Pony said "Johnny is not dead."
Ponyboy has to go to court to testify about Johnny. Ponyboy hasn't been doing so well in English. The teacher says if he does the theme he could get a C grade. When Ponyboy went home he went to read "Gone With the Wind" and he found a note that Johnny wrote. When Johnny wrote his theme he ended up writing the whole book "The Outsiders."
