  • CONFLICT
  • RISING ACTION
  • People in the village gathered around the black box for the "Lottery." The people were all scared for their lives as they watched people gather around to seek their family's fate. 
  • CLIMAX
  • Mr.Summer's checks to make sure that everyone is here so he can get started with the drawing of doom. The scene grows intense as the people realize their will be one less person in the village that day.
  • FALLING ACTION
  • Mr . Summers calls everyone's name so they can come pick a piece of paper and hope that they don't get the paper with the black dot. They all hope that they can get this lottery over and live a full life with their families.
  • RESOLUTION
  • After everyone has taken a piece of paper all the citizen's open them up. Mr. Hutchinson realizes that he has the paper and now knows that his family will not go on as a whole.
  • Mr. Summers had the Hutchinson's come up and pick out of 5 pieces of paper. One of which has a black dot. All of the family members picked their papers. The youngest son got a blank piece of paper as well as the other two older siblings. Mr. Hutchinson opened his paper as well and it was blank which means that Tessie or Mrs.Hutchinson was the one to parish.
  • Mrs. Hutchinson ran from the citizens of the village but was to slow. All the people caught up to her and threw and threw rocks until she fell and perished.
