Storyboard Text

  • It's time we act. We must find a new form of Government.
  • Ratify the constitution! It is the best way for us to govern. It favors both small and large states. It will help us and it will last!
  • The Articles Of Confederation were not working.  The Constitutional convention was brought together to find a new way of government. The people whom came to the convention were committed to America's Freedom.
  • Stop foreclosing farms for debt!
  • Different types of constitutions were proposed. The Virginia plan was created in favor of large states. The New Jersey plan was created in favor of small states.  Complications with the southern states caused many issues and new laws to be passed.
  • This won't last two days. Lord help us all.
  • While on the topic of counting population, the south and north did not agree on what slaves should be counted as. The government passed a law called,"The 3/5 Compromise." It stated that slaves were worth 3/5 of a person. Then the south decided they did not want to talk about slaves anymore, and passes the Slave trade, which stated no one would talk about slaves for 20 years.
  • Now, Lets get bon bons.
  • Shay's Rebellion played a big role in the signing of the constitution.  It proved the Articles of Confederation were not working and the American's needed a new government.  But we had not yet come up with a great constitution that would work for everyone.
  • Robert Sherman was the creator of the Great Compromise , Which suggested that each state, depending on its population, would get so many seats for representatives. We call this the House of Representatives.
  • James Madison wrote the constitution.  Benjamin Franklin, George Washington, Thomas Miffin and many more signed the document that replaced the Articles of Confederation.  Many people signed because the Articles of Confederation gave the government little to no power.
