  • At school, Woodson is very jealous of her sister, Odell, and wants to be as smart as her. Though she has problems with her words, she became a poet; she became successful in what she had problems with and took advantage of the problem. Her problem with words was that when she tried to read them along or out loud with the class, she would see the words twist twirl across the pages; when they settled down, the class was already ahead of her. This made her jealous of her sister because she was smart. All she wanted was to hold the words into her hands and gently blow them away like the dandelion that she wished on.
