  • CONFLICT
  • RISING ACTION
  • The exposition introduces the family: Momma, Dad, Byron, Kenny, and Joetta. Also known as the Watsons. They live in Flint, Michigan.
  • CLIMAX
  • The conflict is man vs society because of all the segregation going around. The Watsons don't think its fair that they don't have equal rights just because of their skin color.
  • FALLING ACTION
  • The rising action is the Watsons driving to Birmingham, Alabama. Momma and Dad plan to leave Byron with Grandma Sands  for the summer and maybe the whole year if Byrons grades don't get better.
  • RESOLUTION
  • The climax is the Birmingham Church bombing that killed 4 girls. Joetta was supposed to be in the same church, but she went outside.
  • A couple days later The Watson's return to their home in Flint, Michigan, still shaken up from the bombing
