  • Montresor thought about everything that Fortuanto has done to him. He vowed to get revenge on him by killing him.
  • “My dear Fortunato, you are luckily met. How remarkably well you are looking to-day! But I have received a pipe of what passes for Amontillado, and I have my doubts.”
  • They continued to talk for a few moments.
  • “How?” said he. “Amontillado? A pipe? Impossible! And in the middle of the carnival!” 
  • “I have my doubts.”
  • With a shocked Fortinato, they start to walk towards the vaults after having a conversation about who the best wine taster would be
  • “Amontillado!” 
  • Montresor wants revenge on Fortunato because he was insulting him
  • “Come,” I said, with decision, “we will go back; your health is precious. You are rich, respected, admired, beloved;  you are happy, as once I was. You are a man to be missed. For me it is no matter. We will go back; you will be ill, and I cannot be responsible. Besides, there is Luchesi——”
  • “Ugh! ugh! ugh!—ugh! ugh! ugh!—ugh! ugh! ugh!— ugh! ugh! ugh!—ugh! ugh! ugh!” 
  • Montresor was walking around, basically a fair looking for Fortunato. 
  • Montresor found Fortunato, while he was very drunk. Montresor started telling him about this expensive wine that he had bought.
  • Fortuanto goes with Montresor to the vaults to prove that he is a wine expert.
  • The walked towards the vaults with a very anxious and excited Fortuanto.
  • They walk through the vaults trying to find the wine, but Montresor locks Fortuanto in the catacombs.
  • Montresor chain Fortuanto to the wall, leaving him wineless and confused.
  • Montresor starts to build a brick wall, locking Fortuanto in the catacombs, while he starts to come out of his drunk phase.
  • Montresor starts to build the wall up leaving a chained Forturnato bewildered and quite frankly, scared.
