Storyboard Text

  • Jonas is with the former Giver. He is waiting at his house.
  • These are Jonas' rules.
  • 1. Go immediately at the end of school hours each day to the Annex entrance behind the House of the Old and present yourself to the Attendant 2.Go immediately to your dwelling at the conclusion of Training hours each day.  3. From this moment you are exempted from rules governing rudeness. You ask any question of any citizen and you will receive answers. 4. Do not discuss your training with any other member of the community, including parent and elders. 5. From this moment you are prohibited from dream-telling. 6. Except for illness or injury unrelated to your training, do not apply for any medication. 7. You are not permitted to apply for release. 8. You may lie.
  • These are the things The Giver has that other people don't
  • Jonas's assignment is the Receiver of Memories. He is responsible for keeping the memories of his community.
  • This is The Giver sharing memories with Jonas.
  • The rules for Jonas' training is you have to go to The Giver's house right after school. You have to go home right after training The Giver. You can be rude. You can't talk about your training with anyone. You can't tell anyone your  dreams. You can't take any medication. You can't leave. You can lie.
  • " But now that I can see colors, at least sometimes, I was just thinking: what if we could hold up things that were bright red, or bright yellow, and he could choose? Instead of sameness?"
  • "He might make wrong choices."
  • Three differences between The Giver's house and the other people's homes are The Giver's house is locked, other people's homes are not. The Giver has luxurious furnishings, while other people's houses have more average looking items. Last but not least, The Giver has numerous books, while other people have 3.
  • The memories that the Giver transmits to Jonas on the first day are he is riding a red sled down a hill. The second one is he is experiencing sunshine and warmth. The third one he experiences a sunburn.
  • The community is not allowed to make decisions because it is not safe. Also, they could possibly make the wrong decision.
  • Jonas and The Giver are talking about how it would be frightening to choose things you want.
  • Seeing beyond is seeing colors. Only The Giver and Jonas can see these colors.
  • Jonas is seeing the color of the spot he sometimes cuts through.
