Since the British were afraid that the "Indians" and Spanish settlers were going to attack the colonies, they put thousands of soldiers in the colonies and in the colonists homes to protect them. The colonists did not like this law and had to take care of them
The Boston Tea Party
Remember, only destroy the tea!
Britain thought that the colonists should help pay off the debts they received during the war. They made them pay higher taxes on printed paper, and to prove that they had been payed they put a blue stamp on the tax paper. The colonists didn't like this and attacked tax collectors.
The Intolerable Acts
They must be punished!
Since the colonists hated the soldiers, one night they went to a soldier standing guard and started throwing rocks at him. More soldiers came to assist him but through all the shouting the soldiers thought they heard the order to shoot and killed five people and injured six.
After the British raised the prices and taxed tea, the colonists dressed up as Indians and raided a tea ship but only destroyed the tea because that was what they were mad about.
To punish the colonists for the Boston tea party and being rude to tax collectors, British Parliament passed several harsh laws that colonists called the intolerable acts.
