Lennie is a big trouble-maker and George isn't taking any risks on anythng happening to George. George tells Lennie that If anything bad happens to Lennie and George, then he needs to hide in the brush inside the forest. He also explains that Lennie needs to ait for George until he gets to the Brush to meet Lennie and so they can escape.
"Hide in the brush".
" Lennie. If you jus' happen to get into trouble like you always done before, I want you to come right here and hide in the brush."
George and Lennie are camping out waiting for their first day of work. While Lennie and George are cooking up and eating their beans, Lennie asks for soe Ketchup. George takes it the wrong way and goes off on Lennie. Although, Lennie didn't want the ketchup for himself. He wanted to give it to George.
"I was only foolin' George. I don't want no ketchup. I wouldn't eat no ketchup if it was right here beside me."
"Whatever we ain't got, that's what you want."
"No he ain't. But he's sure of a hell of a good worker. Strong as a bull."
Lennie and George show up late to meet the boss for their new job. The boss begins to start asking questions about the 2 men's background. The boss realizes that Lennie doesn't really talk, which is the plan George made so that nothing bad happens. The boss begins to questions and suspects why Lennie isn't talking.
"Come on ya big bastard. Get up on your feet."
"He ain't much of a talker, is he?"
Lennie and George meet the demon of the ranch. Curley. Curley is the son of the boss and walks around as if he is better than everyone. George and Lennie meet Curley and realize that this isn't a guy they want to interact with. George begins to get really angry with Curley, and his personality. This isn't something that Lennie and George want to get themselves into.
"We jus' come in."
"Well nex' time you answer when you're spoke to."
Candy has a really old dog living with him and the guys. The guys don't like the smell and company of the dog, so they convince Candy that it's time for the dog to go. Slim is going to kill Candy's dog with a lugar (pistol). Meanwhile, this really hurts Candy. He is really upset with Slim and Carlson and dosesn't talk.
"Awight, take "im
" It won't hurt him none at all."
Lennie and Curley never really liked each other. This leads to a big fight really over nothing. Curley believes that Lennie was laughing at him, which really began this entire fight. Curley comes at Lennie and so, of course, Lennie is going to fight back. This results in Curly losing his vaseline hand, which is tragic for him.
