Ernesto Miranda shaped our two most common rights, the Right to Remain Silent and the Right to a Lawyer. So, if Ernesto was so great why would he be in jail?
To learn how about these rights we first have to learn about what Miranda did to get thrown in jail. Miranda was accused of kidnapping and sexual assault. The police questioned him for hours and he eventually confessed.
Okay, okay I did it.
He was sent to court and the judge ruled that he was guilty. He was then sent to prison. The only problem was that the police did not inform him about his rights. Now, police have to tell people their Miranda rights as soon as they are arrested.
