Gregory being pope angered Henry because he took away rights of the king. (Henry is a king)
I disagree with Gregory being pope
Henry called a council of bishops and declared that Gregory was no longer pope.
I declare that Gregory no longer pope!
Gregory's laws were; selling of church offices and banded the practices whereby kings could appoint priests, bishops, and the heads of monastery.
Like the rulers before Henry, he considered it his duty (and pivillage) to appoint church officials.
The Great Infulace
Henry IV was angery that Gergory VII was pope and banned the practice of whick kings could appoint priests, bishops, and the head of the monasterie.
After Henry declared Gregory no longer pope, Gregory responded by excommunicating Henry. (Thrown out of the church and because of that could not gain salvation.) Gregory also said that Henry's subjects weere no longer to listen to him.
The pope's influnce was so strong that Henry begged for forgivness and was readmitted to the church. For the moment, his action amounted to recongive the pope's authority, even over the emperor.
You are readmitted to the church
Please accept my forgiveness!
But furture rulers and popes would resume the fight over the rights of the church vs. those of the state.
