The settlers settled at a Land that was swampy and the swamp carried multiple diseases like mosquitos had in the swamp. They lived in tents instead of building houses, they thought it was to difficult. In 1607
Why is it surprising that jamestown was a ´´success´´? When people first came to jamestown, they were suffering. They did not have much food or clothes and some had to eat there dogs and cats and shoes. They settled on a swamp where there were diseases carried by mosquitoes. They lived in tents instead of building houses. Then John smith ,former soldier,He became the leader of the settlement. He convinced the colonists to plant crops and work together.By enforcing work duties the colony became more unified. The colony started to really grow and improve after they brought over africans, slaves, that worked on plantations, soon the farms got bigger and more and more workers were needed. The population reached up to one thousand by 1619.Then they started to send over women for the men to get marry and make permanent homes. So that is how jamestown was a success.
