Apologize to my daughter!
At least he knows a good thing when he sees something.
Cassie is shoved by Mr. Simms after she refuses to get out of the way and apologize for bumping into his daughter, Lillian Jean. This is acceptable because Cassie is black, and the Simms are white. This is important because it shows how Cassie's life in the south is heavily influenced by racism.
Uncle Hammer visits the family, and attempts to get revenge on the Simmses for Cassie. Mr. Morrison is forced to stop him.
Stacey is punished by Uncle Hammer after he gives away the nice wool coat that Uncle Hammer gave him. He is not allowed to try to get the coat back.
