Storyboard Text

  • Dr. Dressler discovers Mrs. Starch is sending mail.
  • If she's gone missing, then how is she mailing things out?
  • Dr. Dressler takes the letter
  • It doesn't look like anybody is around.
  • Dr. Dressler is still confused by the letter.
  • Dear Dr. Dressler,     It is with great regret that I must request an indefinite leave of absence from my position at the Truman School, due to a sudden family emergency. I'm sorry for any inconvenience that this may cause. Be assured that I will return to my teaching duties as soon as my personal situation is is settled. Thank you for your patience and understanding, and for respecting my privacy on this matter. Most sincerely, B. Starch
  • After Dr. Dressler leaves Mrs. Starch' s door because she doesn't answer, he notices the flag is up on her mailbox. This is surprising because Mrs. Starch was believed to have disappeared and the flag being up means she is mailing something out.
  • Dr. Dressler is curious as to what the supposedly "missing" teacher is mailing out so he reaches in and grabs the letter. He looks around to make sure there is nobody around to catch him.
  • Dr. Dressler reads the letter and it is still unclear to him where Mrs. Starch is. The only thing that Dr. Dressler takes from this letter is that Mrs. Starch is still alive. This scene is significant because it resolves the mystery about whether Mrs. Starch is alive or not. This scene also presents a new mystery because Mrs. Starch doesn't have any known family, therefore a family emergency is impossible.
