November 5th (Part 1)

On Halloween, I was spending time with one of my closest friends, and having lots of fun.
Later that evening, my mom came to pick me up from my friend’s house, even though it was pretty late already. My mom seemed really tired so I asked her why she seemed that way. She said she spent the entire day at the hospital, with my grandma.
My grandma had a pre-existing medical condition which needed medication, but apparently the home she was staying at messed up her medication. She was put in the hospital earlier that week and it had been hard on all of us.
My mother would arrive at home pretty late and then would have to go through medical bills and be on phone calls. My dad also worked full time and often took trips that could last more than a week. Since our parents were busy, they did not spend as much time with us.
Halloween had come, and passed, so we had to head back to school. It was pretty boring compared to yesterday. Later that night, my parents called for my sister and I. We didn’t have much of an idea as to what they needed, but we went anyway. They sat down and told us that they were moving our grandma into hospice.
Hospice is when a patient is terminally ill, so they make their last few days as comfortable as possible. My sister and I have never faced a huge loss like this, so it was a very sad and emotional time for us. We all just sat there in silence for who knows how long.
