The Highwayman

Storyboard Text

  • In the moonlight, the Highwayman rides along the weathered dirt road.
  • "Tlot, Tlot, Tlot"
  • He meets his love, and tells her that he is going to go off and steal gold. If he is not back by sunrise, he will be chased by those he stole from, but he will be back by midnight.
  • "I'll come to thee by moonlight, though hell should bar the way."
  • He rides away from Bess, after promising to return.
  • "Tlot, Tlot, Tlot"
  • The King's Men come to her house. The Highwayman must have been stealing from them. They gagged her and tied a gun to her as they watched for the highwayman to return.
  • "Now keep good watch!"
  • She twists her hands and finally gets her hand out, but only enough to reach the trigger. At midnight, Bess hears the horse's hooves. Soon after, she sees him. She knows the men will kill him if he gets close enough. She warns him to run, by pulling the trigger, and killing herself. He hears the shot and turns around.
  • The next day, the highwayman hears that his poor Bess had shot herself. He realizes that the King's Men must have been waiting for him. He rides to Bess's home to kill the men, but the men were waiting, and shot the Highwayman down.
  • "Tlot, Tlot, Tlot"
