This is a family of 4 farmers in the medieval times. The fathers name is John and the mothers name is Mary. The two children names are Ruby and Jack. They live in northern Europe in the 1400s. They love to talk about history in their day to day life.
Our ancestors in the 800's started to use iron plows instead of wood. This way they were able to carve deep into the heavy soil here in northern Europe.
Thanks to the technological advancements for farming in the 800's farming has never been better!
Not only that, but they created horse saddles . Which made the horses faster. Faster moving horses meant more land could be plowed in a day than a oxen could do.
That's right dad! Our ancestors also created a farming system called the three field system. That allowed soil to become more fertile.
Now son what happens when there is an increase supply of food for a civilization?
Easy! The population increases! We see this in the year 1000 to 1300. The population tripled because there was more access to food and more land was being planted.
