  • All the people on Maple Street come together and discuss what they think is causing all of the power outages. Steve Brand decides that he will go downtown and get this straitened out. As he starts the engine it turns sluggish and then stops dead. People then started to point fingers at him but Tommy interrupts the crowd and shouts, "Whoever it is they don't want us to leave here. In every story I've read about a ship from outer space landing it always turns out that way."

  • Charlie's the real monster!
  • Charlie screams the real alien is Tommy. The neighborhood looses control and become hysterical. They form into an angry mob, getting into fights and breaking windows.
  • The aliens watch the town destroy each other from the top of a hill. In the end the citizens of Maple Street let there fear take over. They themselves are the monsters, not the aliens.
  • "... we'll go from one to the other and let them destroy themselves. One to the other... one to the other... one to the other..."
