The story starts off with some history/legend of the famous pirate who hid his treasure--who later then was kiled and could not reclaim his fortune.
In the first half, Tom Walker meets the "Devil". He is tempted into giving up his soul up for the treasure and fortune. Then in the second half, he went back to tell his wife and she actually wanted him to do it so he wasn't out of spite. Afterwards, she went out to seek the Devil herself.
Later on, as Tom was in thought, he went looking for his wife. Whom he later somewhat found; as he did, he discovered her liver and heart in her aprin hung in the tree. By this, he rejoiced and wanted to complete the deal.
After completing the deal with the devil, he eventually found the treasure and became very rich. After however long he was swimming in his fortune, he turned very selfish and rude. He didn't want to fulfil his deal by giving away his soul. Therefore he was trying to be Christian yet didn't work out for him.
The following day at work, he didn't want to be greedy nor did he want to break his deal. He was very hatfeul and later on the Devil came for him. He didn't have his bible and lost against evil.
After the death of Tom Walker, the community of Boston planned to oversee his estate. When they did, they discovered that everything was missing. As if none of it ever existed. To the day, their are claimers that see figures of a white anomaly and a horse.
