Tyrion is using the SmartTransport to get to work in the morning. He has a SmartTransport smartcard to use to get to his destination. Arriving at a busy tube station, Tyrion decides to check if his smartcard is still valid.
Tyrion swipes his smartcard onto this reader and the screen displays the ticket type and last valid date, 60 days from now. The annual ticket status enables him to travel around the city an unlimited number of times, via train or bus, until the expiry date.
The terminal gives him the option ‘Extend’ but he decides not to select it as he does not have the time and does not want to be late for work.
Tyrion proceeds to the entry gates which also have card readers. He scans his smartcard at a gate. It detects his card indicated by a sound, and on a small screen, validates it and displays ‘Enter’ with a green tick as it opens the gates.
Tyrion proceeds through and makes his way to a platform. He boards a train before getting off six stops later at another station.
At his arrival station, Tyrion proceeds to the exit gates. Tyrion swipes in his smartcard at a gate. It detects his smartcard indicated by a sound, validates it and displays ‘Exit’ on a small screen as it opens the gates.
