Storyboard Text

  • The source of the world, according to the Iroquois, were the people who lived beyond the sky.
  • The Great Turtle created the world.
  • When a beautiful woman fell from the sky, all of the animals knew they must save her. They wanted to create an island for this angelic woman, so one by one the creatures dove to retrieve the dirt and earthy material from the depths of the sea. Everyone who tried died, unsuccessfully creating the island. Everyone, until Old Lady Toad tried. She managed to retrieve the earthy material, and before her death, heave it onto the Great Turtle's back.
  • The first life forms were turtles (the Great Turtle), muskrats, beavers, and swans.
  • The Great Turtle created an island out of dirt for the beautiful woman. This was the start of humans on Earth.
  • The Iroquois believe in respecting nature. The humans value the animals.
  • Animals might give their lives to create an island for you. (but only if you're beautiful)
