Oedipus is born in the city of Thebes by Jocasta, and King Laius. They were a happy family until they heard some disturbing news.
The Sphinx
An Oracle has told King Laius and Jocasta that their child will grow up and kill his father and sleep with his mother
The Queen
Oedipus grows up in a different town away from his birth parents and is raised by another family. He runs away because someone said that he was going to kill his dad and sleep with his mom. On his way to Thebes to flee from his "parents". A man confronts him. Oedipus kills him because the man would not move out of the way.
Anagnorisis
The city of Thebes has been taken over by a Sphinx. The Sphinx is killing everyone who can't solve a riddle. It is Oedipus' turn to solve the riddle and he does. After, he becomes the king of Thebes and the Sphinx kills itself
Oedipus is now king. Him and the current Queen of Thebes go on and have children of their own
Tiresias, a blind man who knows and sees everything. He tells Oedipus that the man he killed at the crossroads was his father, and the woman he married is his mother.
