  • Mrs. Auld would continue to argue with Frederick and punished him for the things that he did not do around the house. She had become more evil than her husband. If Frederick  would not do what he was told, he would get whipped over and over. When Mrs. Auld’s actions became violent, Frederick would sit there and cry. 
  • Frederick would soon learn to not complain about his work, or the consequences would be painful. He now understood the power that the white people could use against the slaves.  He wanted to escape his reality that he was living in.He wished to be free. He wanted to get out of the life that he was living in and wanted to become happy. Frederick would soon learn to not complain about his work, or the consequences would be painful.   • Frederick was no longer a child and all grown up. He got the strength from the word abolition from the newspapers that he read. He knew the word had to be a secret, because the slave owners did not want the slaves to know there was a way out of slavery.
