Storyboard Text

  • Athena was Zeus's daughter, and was wise, kind and understanding. She was a god that liked a lot of power.
  • Ancient Greek myth:  Athena
  • Almost every town in Ancient Greece had a god in charge of them.
  • But one day, two gods, Athena and Poseidon, claimed the same village. Both gods liked to have the most power.
  • If you can give the town a better gift then you can be in charge
  • Athena knew that she could not make Poseidon angry, so she made him a deal that whoever could give the village the best gift, could keep the town.
  • Poseidon made a river appear down a mountain, but the water was salt! They couldn't use it.
  • Athena made a great olive tree appear. The olive tree provided the towns people with olives to eat, wood to use, and oil from pressed olives.
  • Athena was the winner! That's why the town mow has a wise and powerful guardian: the goddess Athena. In her honor, they named their town after her, Athens.
