  • The Boston Massacre began on King Street in Boston as just a brawl between American colonists and one British soldier.
  • March 5, 1770
  • American colonists were already angry about Britain's tax laws. They were rebelling and protesting the taxes around the streets causing minor altercations.
  • No taxation without representation!
  • Private Hugh White was the lone soldier guarding a Custom House one night. The argument between him and the colonists escalated, and they started to physically harass him.
  • March 5, 1770
  • White called for reinforcements, and Captain Thomas Preston came along with several soldiers.
  • The soldiers and colonists started harassing one another. The violence was getting intense.
  • There was a sound of one shot. Unintentional or not, the soldiers continued to open fire killing five and wounding six colonists.
