Tex and Mason live by themselves in Garyville, Oklahoma. With their mother dead, and their Pop being gone for months at a time, Mason is left to care for Tex, and withhold the house. When financial problems become too rough, Mason sells Tex's pride and joy-his horse. Tex finds himself facing the challenges of growing up, right alongside his best buddy Johnny, & Johnny's blue-eyed sister Jamie.
Tex takes place in a fictional town in Oklahoma called Garyville, which is a right outside of Tulsa. The story takes place in the late 70s.

Tex is very carefree, and easy going. He loves his horse more than anything, and is always causing mischief with his best friend Johnny.
Theme-Growing up is tough
Mason takes care of Tex, and works so they can keep the house. Mason is always complaining about his Pop, and plans to leave Oklahoma. In his free time, Mason plays basketball, and is pretty good at it.
Mason faces financial problems, and not only sells his horse, but Tex's beloved Negrito.
All throughout this story Tex faces the challenges of growing up and becoming an adult.
