  • Hey mom? I was wondering if I could take piano lessons.
  • You want to take piano lessons? Sure honey!

  • MUSICAL ALPHABET:A, B, C, D, E, F, G
  • What happened to the rest of the alphabet?
  • This is the musical alphabet. See? it goes A, B, C, D, E, F, G.

  • Classical music... again?
  • Okay let's see you play Für Elise!
  • Second grade was when I truly started gaining an interest in music. I was in dance classes at a studio called Kick It Up at the time, and my musical theater teacher would always play the piano and accompany us while we danced. I was entranced by the idea that I could create beautiful sounds just by tapping keys so I decided to ask my mom for piano lessons.

  • The studio I was dancing at at the time actually offered piano lessons, taught by the manager of the dance studio Ms. Susan. I started attending lessons once a week on Wednesday and I grew to love playing the piano.
  • I ended up taking piano lessons with Ms. Susan for about 4 years, sadly, I had to quit when I found out I was moving to a different city. Eventually, in 7th grade, I decided to take piano lessons again and (due to my newfound interest in the ukulele) took ukulele lessons as well. However, I ended up quitting both classes at the end of 8th grade because although I loved both instruments, I was tired of playing classical and traditional music and I felt that in order to grow as a musician it was time to start teaching myself songs I actually wanted to learn like pop songs.
  • Fast forward to today in 2021, I'm currently taking guitar lessons (although due to the pandemic they are on zoom for now) and though I still have so much to learn, I'm getting better every day. All of the instruments I play, and even just listening to music, have helped me express myself and channel my emotions into something that I love. As a person with anxiety, I struggle a lot with overthinking, but music always helps clear my mind. It has consistently been the one thing I can count on (besides my amazing parents) and that is why I love it so much. It has completely shaped me into the creative person that I am today.
