  • The Sugar Act  1765
  • We should tax sugar, because they drink tea with sugar.
  • What do we do!
  • They might be mad and say "No Taxation Without Representation" 
  • We should tax the colonists because they cost us lots of war debt.
  • What if they boycott!
  • The Boston Massacre 1770
  • Lobsters, bloody backs
  • Who buys lobsters You dare not fire
  • The Battles of Lexington and Concord 
  • Parliament passed the sugar act, which taxed the colonists on sugar. The colonists boycotted the act. The colonists said “No taxation without representation." Many acts were passed and repealed. 
  • The Declaration of Independence was written in 1776
  • We want to be an independent nation.
  • The Boston massacre happened in the spring of 1770.  Five colonists where killed. There are multiple sides to the story. Some people believe it was murder and others think it was accidental.
  • The Battle of Saratoga 1777
  • During the battles of Lexington and Concord the colonists and British had different battle tactics. The British would stand in lines and fire, while the colonists hit and ran. These battles where the first. The British wanted to take militia weapons.
  • The Battle of Yorktown 1781
  • The continental congress wanted the united states to become a country separate from England. 
  • George Washington wanted to raise the soldiers moral so he attacked the Hessian's. They where caught off guard and defeated in 30 minutes.
  • The battle of Yorktown was a very important battle during the revolution. The colonists defeated the British. The British surrendered.
