In the book "The Giver", There is a boy named Jonas and he and his family live in a utopian community. Their community was perfect, or so it seems.
Jonas had an ability to "see beyond" no one really knew what it meant. Not even Jonas.
Each "age" up to 12 participates in certain ceremonies. It's where the whole community joins together and celebrates another year for the children. On the ceremony of 12, the children become adults and get assigned their jobs. Jonas got chosen (not assigned) for "The Receiver of Memories". It is a very honored assignment.
Jonas runs away with Gabriel.
Jonas starts training for his job and starts receiving memories from "The Giver" and realizes that "seeing beyond" means seeing color.
Jonas receives memories from The Giver.
Jonas starts learning secrets about the reality of his "perfect community". His people always told him that the concept of "release" was a good thing. He soon learns that "release" means death.
Jonas finds out what the true meaning of release is.
Jonas doesn't agree with the community and their guidelines anymore. The Giver knows how he feels and helps him escape. The community was thinking about releasing Gabriel and Jonas didn't want that to happen. He decided to bring Gabriel with him and escape.
