Everyone get your stuff together, we're going on a road trip!
Can I bring my teddy?
I'm so excited!
We're three weeks into the five-month trip.
Don't worry, I've got you!
March 12th, 1848, the Martins set off for their journey to Oregon.
It's so magnificent
Wow, look at the view!
April 2nd, 1848, the Martins have traveled 275 miles and everyone is still healthy, but a blizzard stops them from going any further for a few days.
We're finally home!
It's so beautiful out here!
One week later, they cross a seemingly shallow river, but, as the oxen try to get the wagon across, Amelia falls in. Along the Oregon Trail, accidents and illness kill one in ten people. However, Amelia gets lucky, her brother, Jack saved her.
This is over-whale-ming!
The Martins had made it to South Pass, the halfway point of the trip and they also found a beautiful lookout where they could see for miles around. It was late June and 89° degrees, but they couldn't be happier
August 12, 1848, the Martins finally make it to Oregon!
Welcome to Oregon Valley Population 1,200
The next evening, Jack, Amelia, Matt, Sally, and their dog Piper all took their wagon to the nearby shore. While they were there, they saw an orca, which none of them had seen before. They were amazed, but they were even happier that they all made it to Oregon together.
