September 1, 1939 a week after the Nazi-Soviet Pact, German force invaded Poland. Two days later, Britain and France would declare war on Germany. World War II had begun.
Nazis Attack the Soviet Union
The British sent all available naval vessels across the English channel to pluck stranded troops off the beach of Dunkirk. Despite German air attacks, the improvised armada ferried more than 300,000 troops to safety in Britain. This heroic rescue raised British morale.
Attack on Pearl Harbor
Hitler made plans for Operation Sea Lion- the invasion of Britain. He launched massive air strikes against the island nation. August 1940, German bombers would begin a daily bombardment of England's southern coast. For 57 nights in a row and then sporadically until next may would the Blitz continue. Thousands of people lost their lives while some sought refuge within underground.
Holocuast/ Liberation of Jewish concentration camps
June 1941, Hitler broke the Nazi-Soviet Pact by invading the Soviet Union in Operation. This event was significant because Hitler broke a pact and it resulted in many Nazi casualties.
On December 7, 1941, Japanese airplanes bombed the American fleet at Pearl Harbor in Hawaii. The attack took 2,400 loves and destroyed battleships and aircraft. This event was significant because it forced the U.S. to enter WWII.
During WWII, six million Jews were massacred and around two-thirds of European Jews were killed as well. It wasn't until the end of the war (1945) that Jewish camps would be liberated. This event was significant because its a lesson to humanity that antisemitism can grow into something far greater.
