La Bamba by: Gary Soto In 1976 he became the first Mexican American to ever get a M.F.A. Gary Soto is also a pretty famous writer. In 1978 he had also got nominated Pulitzer Prize for The Tale of the Sunlight.
One day Manuel was walking to school and kicking threw the leaves. He had just remembered he had volunteered for the school play. The only reason he volunteered was so he could impress Petra Lopez, his crush.
Later that day him and his friend Benny were sitting and talking about the talent show and showing each other there talents. Then out of nowhere Benny starts playing his trumpet and for Manuel's act he had to sing so he had a record. Then after that he dropped it from the fright of Benny's trumpet.
It was finally the night of my big show so I was obviously practicing. Before me I was listening to the people performing on stage. There was one girl who sang about brushing her teeth with a tooth running all over the stage. Then out of nowhere the tooth fell and almost rolled of but Mr. Roybal caught her before she fell off the stage.
I told Mr. Roybal to play the track and he did. Then Manuel remembered how Benny told him to dance. Then he was dancing to the song La Bamba and he was singing. Then the record stared repeating La Bamba and he also started repeating La Bamba. People started laughing and he took it as a joke and went off stage. Then he remembered he had finally got the crowd to go wild.
