Para bailar la bamba
Manuel (the main character) goes to John Burroughs Elementary. During the beginning of school (fall) the trees were turning red, the lawns brown, and pomegranate trees were heavy with fruit. Manuel was going to pretend to sing the Richie Valens's "La Bamba" before the entire school.
Before Manuel went onto sing before his subjects in the audience There were kids that had to go before him. There was a girl singing about brushing a dirty gray tooth then the dirty tooth ran around before the toothbrush and slipped and made a joke. Then a violin duo went next. Then a bunch of first-graders jumping rope. Then a karate kid. Then finally it was Manuel's turn and he was paralyzed with fear.
When Manuel got on stage the music started immediately, Glassy-eyed from the shock from being in front of so many people. Manuel moved his lips and swayed his hips in a made-up dance step. Manuel thought to himself " What am I doing here? This is no fun at all" The record got stuck and he sang the song lyrics over and over again.
