"I will now give you the memory of snow. Are you ready?"
Jonas has been assigned the receiver of memory. His job is to receive the the memories of the past that no one else knows.
The rules that Jonas is obliged to follow is that all free time is spent with the giver, go straight home after training each day, he is allowed to be rude, no more dream telling, no medication, no applications for release, and you may lie.
One of the things in the givers home that is different than the others is the locked doors. Another difference is the luxury such as the cushioned furniture and decorative paintings. One last major diffidence between the givers home and everyone eases is the shelf full of books.
The first memory that the giver transmits to Jonas on his first day of training is the memory of snow. This memory is represented with a Jonas on a sled, sledding down the hill.
The reason why Jonas's community isn't aloud to make decisions is because the leaders don't want them to make the wrong decisions. For example, none of them will be over weight is because they dont have the decision of what to eat and how much
Jonas has the ability to see beyond. The ability to see beyond is the ability to see what other people cant, you can see things that are not really there.
