  • Abraham Lincoln was the Unions 16th president during 1861. Abraham was a republican who opposed the extension of slavery. He was then later killed by, John Wilkes Booth in 1865.
  • Population Advantage
  • Ulysses S. Grant was a military leader during the civil war who was then elected as the 18th president during 1869. During the American Civil War, General Grant, with President Abraham Lincoln, led the Union Army to victory over the Confederacy.
  • Suited for Battle
  • The Unions main military strategy was known as The Anaconda Plan. It was suggested by Winfield Scott and the plan was the choke and suffocate the South. The plan was to make a blockade to prevent the South from trading with the rest of the world.
  • The Union Railroads
  • One Advantage of the North during the civil war was the population that they had. If they had more people in their nation then it could lead to popular growth in the army and supporting war efforts.
  • Due to large population in the North the factories in the nation could work twice as fast. Then the army could gain much supplies during the war. Some supplies the army gain was clothing, boots, and large amounts of ammunition
  • The nation's railroads were a huge advantage in the North during the Civil War since it covered up 72% of their land. It allowed them to make trades with other states around the nation which could give them more than enough supplies for the War.
