Act 1 Scene 1
Just four more days.
My daughter has been bewitched!
Theseus cannot wait to wed Hippolyta and is angered at the moon for acting too slowly. Hippolyta helps calm him down.
You should marry him.
Theseus sends Philostrate to make everyone in Athens party in order to make time go faster and promises Hippolyta it will be a great wedding.
"The course of true love never did run smooth."
A man named Egeus introduces himself to Theseus and talks about how his daughter is to be married as well. However, she doesn't want to marry her suitor Demetrius.
I wish Demetrius were into me.
Egeus describes how she will either be killed or be forced to become a nun if she refuses to marry Demetrius and she says she would rather be a nun and wants to marry Lysander.
Lysander and Hermia are left to talk and she says that they have to be patient. Lysand then suggests they meet the next night in the woods and run away to his aunt's house.
Hermia's friend, Helena, shows up and is jealous of Hermia's ability to attract men. She says she doesn't try and Helena begins to pity herself. The couples tells Helena their plan and leave.
