The school of Theravada and the school of Mahayana split
The split occured because of the disagreement of what texhing of buddha meant.
Therevada believed that Buddhism was a way of life understanding ones self is the best way to get to nirvana and transform ones self through moral conduct. The school of Mahayada believed that the Therevada's way of life was too strict; Nirvana is the true heaven; and people can achieve eternal life after death.
