I feel terrible my father just chopped off his thumb doing my job. Every fur trading season my father signs with the Northwest Trading Co. He does that so we can survive and get enough money for food and supplies. Since my dad can´t be a trader this year I decided to to help my family get money to survive
I am holding up alright after leaving St. Annes. I left a donation with the other people on my canoe at a church where someone was in a casket because the died from the currents by getting pulled under and drowning. I kind of get a long with the brigade they sometimes tease me for being the littlest and youngest but most of them are nice. My muscles are hurt a lot and the blisters sting. I am really homesick I wish I was with my family this is very exhausting and I really miss my family.
We hit our first set of rapids. We decided not to do the rapids and partage. I got my pack and it was seemed a lot heavier than what they said it was it felt like the buckles were digging into me. My arms and legs were and pain. Finally when I got to the end I sat down everyone started laughing and I knew something was up so I opened up my pack and 200lbs of musket balls fell I had really got and real mans load. I figured out that people were betting if I was going to make it or not. That was the most exhausting thing ever.
We are on Lake Superior and we decided to save some time by cutting across Bay Michipicoten the weather was good at first until the rain pouring down felt like pebbles and we could barley keep the canoe under control. The waves were so high and the water was so high it was up to my moccasin. We saw a island so we tried to paddle there to get to safety and get out of the weather.
Whoa! I can see Grand Portage from here. I cant believe we made it. I wonder what it is going to be like. It is also rendezvous!! I also winder how everyone else is going to be like from the other trading company.
