  • SOCIAL
  •
  • ECONOMIC
  • TOBACCO IS OUR CASH CROP
  • The King, KING JAMES THE FIRST , decides to send in reinforcement supplies to the Settlers of Jamestowne, VIRGINIA through the CHESAPEAKE BAY to help the PLANTATIONS get started.
  • THIS IS OUR SWAMP
  • GEOGRAPHIC
  • One of the settlers of Jamestowne starved to death during the POWHATAN SIEGE, after the ship that was supposed to have been carrying supplies to Jamestowne turned around due to lack of food.
  • It is unbelieveable that Jamestowne was a success because of all of the failures the English experienced in trying to colonize in the present day United States of America.  They had been through all of the trouble with the Lost Colony of Roanoke and the POWHATAN SIEGE, also known as the "Starving Time", and for good reason. One of the great things about Jamestowne's success is that one can look back in history and see people who went through struggles and pain to bring victory to their new found country.
  • JOHN ROLFE planted TOBACCO in Jamestowne, VIRGINIA and soon it became a CASH CROP. The COLONY soon relied on tobacco for their income, making it one of their major EXPORTS and a large CASH CROP.
  • The Settlers of Jamestowne decided to settle along the JAMES RIVER. It was nearby CHESAPEAKE BAY where the FERTILE SOIL was perfect for growing TOBACCO on PLANTATIONS. One of the negative factors in choosing this location was that the MOSQUITOES  were horrible at the SWAMP, often carrying disease that made the Settlers sick.
  •  IN CONCLUSION...
