Scout has conflicting emotions when her father tells her he is defending Tom. Even though she knows it is the right thing, she has trouble believing it is right when everyone else thinks it is wrong. In the end, she decides that defending Tom is the right thing.
When Jem Finch cuts of Mrs. Duboses for insulting there father, he has to to her house to read to her every day. The conflict is resolved when she sends him a camellia bud to let him know that all is forgiven.
