One day another slave came to live with Frederick and the Aulds his name was Leo. The next day all of the sudden Mrs. Auld became very nasty to Frederick and Leo and talked in a cold way towards them. Mrs. Auld would do stuff like taking away food if they didn’t finish their work in time, and would get angry if they took breaks. Frederick and Leo woke up one cold morning and Mrs.Auld was yelling at them to go do their work and they acted like they couldn’t hear her. Then she came up stairs and hit them with a broomstick. Frederick felt his rib snap, Leo got hit in the gut and coughed up blood.
Frederick and Leo were scared of Mrs.Auld. She became crueler than Mr.Auld, Frederick often thought of taking his own life to end the suffering. Frederick and Leos work became more and more difficult. Leo took a break and Frederick said for him to just push through and complete it in case Mrs.Auld was watching and he refused. Mrs.Auld saw him taking a break and came outside with a whip and slashed him 2 times in the same spot and Leo let out a loud scream. Frederick took 1 slash on the back because of Leo taking a break. Mrs. Auld would punish both of them if one did something she didn’t like.
Leo got very very sick one day and died and Frederick was by himself so he had to do double the amount of work now. Frederick didn’t complain and keep’t doing his work. Frederick lived an unhappy life in Baltimore.Years later, Frederick was doing his work one day and Mrs.Auld said go to the market in town to get our food for the week Frederick said yes. When Frederick left he saw a flyer that said abolitionist are trying to get rid of slavery. Frederick ran away and went up north to become a abolitionist and fought to end slavery. He lived in Rochester New York and soon helped end slavery. He talked about his experience from being a slave and how cruel the slaveholders were. People now knew how cruel slavery was and how harsh it can be some slaves are in so bad conditions they would die as a kid. Frederick went on to live a happy rest of his life and had 5 kids.
