The Ascension is 40 days after the Resurrection. During the 40 days Jesus taught the disciples how to live like him. One day they were in Bethany on a hill. Before he rose into heaven he promised the disciples gift. He did not tell the disciples when and what it was. Another thing that he told the disciples is to spread the news.
I bless you in the name of the father and of the son and of the holy spirit
The disciples and followers were waiting for ten days. Then they felt a mighty gust of wind. After they were looking at each other and noticed tongues of fire above their heads. When they went to speak they could speak foreign languages. They remembered that this was the gift that god had promised. They were filled with the gifts of the holy spirit. Wisdom, understanding, knowledge.counsel, fortitude, piety and fear.
I am so confused
Peter went and addressed the crowd that this was the work of god. Many people were shouting that these men were drunk and did not know what they what they were talking about. After about half an hour of Peter preaching to the crowd The non-believers started to believe.
Lots of people wanted to start to believe in Jesus. The disciples started to baptise people in a river nearby. Over 3000 people were baptised and they all became believers. This was the start of early church. Pentecost is also called the church's birthday.
