Janie iscaught up with the thoughts of Tea Cake. She convinces herself that she shouldnot have a relationship with him. Tea Cake comes to the song singing and Janie forgetsall her plans. They play checkers until the store closes again and Janieinvites him to have some cake with her. They then go fishing and spend thenight together.
Janie develops feelings for Tea Cake and has an internal conflict on weather she cantrust him or not. They assure their feelings towards each other as they spendtime together. Janie is still worried about this relationship considering thecircumstances, but Tea Cake reassures her.
Janie attends the Sunday School picnic with Tea Cake and becomes the gossip victim for the town. The town people including Phoebe’s husband think that Tea Cake is taking advantage of Janie . Phoebe trusts Janie, but goes talk to her. Janie assures her that Tea Cake is a good person and that they will sell the store and get married after they leave Eatonville.
A letter arrives from Jacksonville noticing Janie that it is time for her to marry. She arrives at the church and marries Tea Cake right away. One day Tea Cake doesn’t return from fishing and Janie realizes her 200$ that she hid were gone. She imagines the worst scenario and retails the story of Mrs. Tyler. After a while of her waiting anxiously Tea Cake returns singing and playing a guitar.
Tea Cake explained that he spent the money on treating his fellow workers some fried chicken and on buying a guitar. He promised her that he would win back the money with his amazing gambling skills. Tea Cake didn’t return for a long timeand Janie worried something went wrong. He returned cut by a razor and brought 322$.They proved their trust for each other and they made plans on going to Everglades.
