Storyboard Text

  • Inside the constitutional convention...
  • "We wrote the Declaration and the Articles, let's write our third big paper!"
  • But there's a lot of arguing...
  • I'm for the virginia plan, states should be represented more if it's bigger!
  • I'm for the New Jersey Plan, all states should be represented equally!
  • I say we should have both in a bicameral legislature! A Great Compromise!
  • South
  • Do slaves count as people? They should be represented if they do
  • Sick burn
  • Sounds good
  • How about the 3/5ths Compromise? It means slaves are 3/5ths of a person
  • Apparently they don't, considering they're your slave
  • North
  • Our new government has its power sectioned off into branches. We call it Seperation of Powers. Our three branches are: Legislative Branch, who create the laws Executive Branch, who enforce the laws And the Judicial Branch, who interpret the laws.
  • These branches can also curb the power of the other branches, so one branch can't be too powerful. We call this Checks and Balances
  • That's a pretty big text balloon, Ben.
  • We're the Anti-Federalists, we believe there should be a bill in the Constitution that spells out your rights, The Bill of Rights!
  • We're the Federalists, we think that's dumb! You don't need a Bill of Rights.
  • New York
  • We aren't signing nothing!
  • Virginia
  • In that case, we're in!
  • 9 out of 13 states need to agree to the Constitution for it to be Ratified.
  • We'll add the Bill of Rights.
